Part 1.

Korea started offering e-government services in the 1990s. It was the

country's world-leading ICT backbone that made these services

possible. Korea's e-government has enhanced both the efficiency and

transparency of public administration. What's more, it has allowed people

to enjoy high-quality services and improved national competitiveness.

Korea's e-government services include multiple systems designed to

"improve the efficiency of public administration. Examples include

digitized government processes and 'expanded information sharing.

The results of these systems include termondous cost savings and a

reduction in manpower expenditures. As a result, people do not need to meet in person for

various services. Instead, they can save time by using online services.

Part 2.

One good example is the system that processes the government's work

online. Another is a 2digital fiscal information system, which integrates all

government financial activities. Integrated data centers are another good

example. These perform combined management and operation of IT

resources on a real-time basis.

Other systems include an internet tax system and an intelligent transport

system. With these systems, citizens do not have to visit public office

buildings and wait in long lines. They can now use online services

whenever it is most convenient for them. These changes provide

greater convenience for citizens and allow the government to be more

effective.
